Nine out of 10 Americans say they’ve delayed or avoided a preventive health checkup – and 94% admit logistical issues, embarrassment, or fear played a role in their inaction.

Those figures are a problem. When routine appointments are skipped, conditions go undetected, leading to worse outcomes and all the risks that come along with poorer health. And that’s to say nothing of the cost to payors footing much of the bill.

It’s also why we’re excited about the early results of a test we’re running for one of the country’s largest payors.

What we’re doing: Agentic in-app scheduling

For the first time ever, plan members can book appointments with in-network primary care providers directly within the payor’s app thanks to our agentic AI

That means getting an appointment on the books with a provider covered by the member’s plan can happen in seconds, with just a few taps on a phone. And perhaps most importantly to the 94% of Americans mentioned above, without the need to make a phone call and explain the reason for the appointment to a stranger on the other end of the line.

During the test, preventive care visits were by far the most frequently booked appointments. That suggests something long put on the backburner becomes much more likely to happen when the usual friction is removed – no calling a provider’s office, no navigating phone trees, no waiting on hold, and no uncertainty about whether a provider is in-network.

Here’s the breakdown of appointments booked within the payor’s app to-date, by frequency of type:

  • 72%: Preventive care
  • 10.7%: New symptom
  • 8.2%: Other
  • 7.5%: Checkup
  • 1.1%: Follow-up
  • 0.3%: Evaluation

We believe this feature can change behavior; but more importantly, at population scale, it could change outcomes.

What agentic in-app scheduling means for payors

For payors, the value extends beyond member satisfaction. Making preventive care easier to schedule helps members address health needs earlier, reducing the likelihood of costly downstream events like ER visits or hospitalizations. When members stay connected to primary care, outcomes improve, and long-term costs tend to fall.

What’s new here is the role of the payor itself. By enabling scheduling directly within its app, the payor effectively becomes a marketplace between members and its provider network. Members share availability in-app, and Infinitus’ agentic AI coordinates with selected providers to confirm appointment availability and eligibility.

The result is better network utilization on both sides: members get faster access to in-network care, providers see increased demand and throughput, and payors can more actively steer care into lower-cost, higher-value settings, before issues escalate.

Making necessary care the easy choice

Americans aren’t avoiding preventive care because they’re confused about its importance. In great part, preventive care is harder to access than it should be. But when scheduling fits naturally into how people already manage their health, care that was once delayed becomes something that can actually be followed through on.
